THE ISRAELITE OBLIGATION TO KEEP THE FEASTS A Doctrinal Treatise from the Desk of John Shane Vaughn Founder & Apostolic Overseer, First Harvest Ministries International The Foundational Truth Before we explore Elijah’s prophetic pattern, we must first establish an uncompromising foundation: the Feast Days of Yahweh are not optional extras, they are binding obligations upon the Israel of Yahweh. If you are grafted into the Commonwealth of Israel through faith in Yahshua (Jesus) the Messiah (Ephesians 2:12–13), then the appointed times—moedim—are your covenant responsibility. To reject them is to reject your own identity. The Divine Command to Gather Leviticus 23:2–4 declares: “Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘The LORD’s appointed times which you shall proclaim as holy convocations—My appointed times are these: For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a sabbath of complete rest, a holy convocation... These are the appointed times of the LORD, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at their appointed times.’” Appointed Times (Moedim). These are Yahweh’s calendar appointments, not Israel’s. Holy Convocations (Miqra). This word does not mean private observance; it means assembly, gathering, a corporate call to appear. The Warning for Refusal Leviticus 23:29–30 issues the chilling warning: “For if there is any person who will not humble himself on this same day, he shall be cut off from his people. As for any person who does any work on this same day, that person I will destroy from among his people.” Two terrifying outcomes are named: Cut off from his people – stripped of covenant identity. Destroyed from among his people – removed from the congregation of the living. To neglect the Feasts is not a minor misstep; it is covenant treachery. Covenant Authority, Not Private Choice Deuteronomy 16:16 speaks with finality: “Three times in a year all your males shall appear before the LORD your God in the place which He chooses...” Notice: Not where you choose. Not what is convenient. The place He chooses, through His appointed authority. The Modern Application of Covenant Authority Today, Yahweh raises up apostolic authority to establish the where and how of feast observance. This ministry has been entrusted with such order. Therefore, when this ministry declares the location and structure of the Feast: It is not a suggestion. It is not an invitation to personal reinterpretation. It is divine order through covenant leadership. Those who reject the authority reject the assembly, and those who reject the assembly reject Israel. The Counting of the Assembly Numbers 1:2–3 commands: “Take a census of all the congregation... every male... you and Aaron shall number them by their armies.” To be numbered among Israel, you had to appear. Your presence matters. Your absence is rebellion. When you attend the Feasts, you are visibly counted among Yahweh’s army. When you stay home, you are invisible to the census of Israel. No Excuses Accepted The wilderness generation had families, work, and hardship. Yet they obeyed. Modern excuses—travel expense, work schedules, family drama, doctrinal quibbles—cannot overturn covenant command. The issue is not convenience but covenant identity. The Choice Before Every Israelite The question is simple: Will you be counted among the assembly or cut off from the people? Will you embrace covenant order or persist in independent religion? If you are Israel, you will appear. If you will not appear, then stop claiming the name Israel. The Authority Structure of the Feasts When you gather, you submit: To the order of service. To the Word proclaimed. To the corporate worship. To the leadership Yahweh has established. This is not manipulation—it is covenant structure. Yahweh has always worked through appointed order, never chaotic independence. The Promise for Obedience Those who honor Yahweh’s moedim under proper covenant authority will: Be counted among His people. Receive covenant blessings. Be positioned for prophetic fulfillment. Maintain their Israelite identity. The Final Word The Feasts are not “Jewish holidays” or “Christian options.” They are Yahweh’s eternal appointments. To reject them is to reject covenant. To neglect them is to neglect your identity. To keep them under authority is to be numbered with Israel and preserved for the blessings of the Kingdom. The Day of Atonement is approaching. The Elijah pattern is unfolding. Where will you be found? Counted... or cut off? The choice is yours. But the consequences are eternal.
