What Changed My Theology? Here are 10 Scriptures that wrecked my thinking Shane Vaughn ——— First Harvest Ministries International 1 preview I would love to share with you 10 scriptures that have radically fundamentally and forever changed my thinking theologically we're going to start with scripture number one and I would like for you to follow along with me and we're going to run through these 10 scriptures and I believe that there's a possibility that when you truly look at these scriptures you may never look at your Bible the exact same way again I had studied the word of Yahweh the word of God for nearly 35 years of my life and surprisingly having grown up in the Christian church particularly the Pentecostal faith 2 surprisingly these 10 scriptures were never truly referenced I don't remember hearing them in church and I definitely don't remember hearing them explained in any type of detail so tonight grab your bible come on you've got nothing better to do and learn these 10 scriptures it's sort of like the Ten Commandments ten scriptures that will forever Change Your Life preview [Music] Revelation chapter 12 and verse 9. 3 this scripture may be one of the most transformational scriptures in the Bible Revelations 12 and 9 if you've got it let's take a look at it it talks about the Great Dragon who was cast out of Heaven that old serpent the devil Satan and then it says something right after it that I never thought about and maybe you haven't either the Bible says that he deceives the whole world yes every iota every inch every individual in this world every minister every Church every president every world leader according to Revelations 12 and 9 I had never thought of it like this he literally deceives the whole 4 world now this scripture is ignored or not understood by most of Christianity have you ever heard that scripture preached from your pulpit okay what about explained as the one that deceives the whole world including ministers now I never thought of it this way but if Satan has deceived the whole world surely that includes ministers Ephesians chapter 2 and verse 2 goes right along with Revelations 12 and 9. 5 it says talking about the believer you in times past you walked according to the course of this world according to the prince of the power of the air the spirit that now works in the children of rebellion or the children of Disobedience I want you to grasp this before we go to the second scripture that forever changed my thinking grasp what Ephesians 2 and 2 just said it calls Satan the prince of the power of the air why because that is how he deceives the whole world through his power over the air or the atmosphere or the media or the things that are transported through the air communication 6 he is in control of communication and he transmits throughout the entire world a certain frequency or a certain spirit and that spirit is the spirit of rebellion disobedience he sends moods feelings have you ever heard I'm all in my feelings today these feelings where do they come from think about it what causes you to wake up one day just all of a sudden severely discouraged severely depressed because you have awakened under the prince of the power of of the atmosphere all around you and that atmosphere is pulsating with a spirit behind it and it is the spirit of rebellion this Spirit brings 7 hostility to your mind remember what the Bible says about Satan he is angry it says that in the Book of Revelation he is very angry so if you wonder what kind of spirit he is putting out it is the spirit of anger rebellion and it permeates all around you waiting for you to follow its pulsation this is how Satan has deceived the whole world now notice back in Ephesians chapter 2 and verse 2 that these spirits is working according to Ephesians 2 and 2. 8 the prince of the power of the air the spirit is working to do one thing and that what is it what does it say to bring disobedience Rebellion the entire purpose of the prince of the power of the air is to make you like him rebellious disobedient all about yourself angry at everybody that's ever done you wrong see because Satan's angry at God because he thinks God did him wrong because he wants you to be like him blaming everybody for your circumstances he wants to bring you in to Rebellion he does this through airwave control it gives him tremendous power over this world it allows him to send 9 thoughts of Deceit anger Pride hatred vanity jealousy lust greed envy and confusion into your mind because your mind brothers and sisters is like a radio transmitter this mind is searching daily for frequencies it picks up on these signals because any mind that is a carnal mind it thrives on these carnal thoughts and Satan sends those thoughts to an unprotected unregenerated on spirit filled mind the devil is so powerful in this area most people don't realize it but I want you to look at the position that Satan holds in second Corinthians 4 and 4. 10 it says that the God of this world that's Satan has blinded the thinking or the minds of them that believe not lest the light of the gospel of Christ should shine to them what is that saying Satan blinds and deceives on a staggering scale it's mind-blowing how he has taken the entire world including ministers and brought them into his deception of rebellion towards God what is the result of this as I close on this first scripture the result of all of this is a world filled with disobedience what is Satan's trademark Disobedience Rebellion and now the whole world is pulsating almost in rhythm 11 with that very same Spirit of their father the devil his cunning has been so seductive that he's been able to convince many people that he doesn't even exist Satan is so good at Deception that he has deceived the whole world and convinced them that he does not even exist he is the very one deceiving them and they don't even know it however when you become a believer converted and transformed and begotten by the holy seed of Yahweh when that Holy seed that Holy Spirit when it is deposited into your mind by the supernatural agency of the Holy Spirit when it comes in when you repent and are 12 baptized in his name when that seed makes its way into your mind this is what happens and it's very important that you understand exactly how this works it guides you the Bible said when the Holy Spirit comes he will guide you into all truth he will take you out of that zombie army that believed whatever you were told by your minister by by your favorite actor from Hollywood all of a sudden when the Holy Spirit comes in he rescues you from marching to the beat of the pie Piper of hell and all of a sudden he begins to guide you down a very narrow path it's a path of Truth it's a path of Torah 13 it's a path of obedience to the Commandments of God the children of Disobedience as the Bible calls them they're Guided by another spirit this proves to us that the evidence that you have the Holy Spirit is your ability to obey God in every area of your life Satan According to second Corinthians 11 14-15 has transformed himself into a preacher you know that scripture blew my mind I never saw that scripture and all my years of study I saw it but I didn't see it Satan is so good at Deception that he literally has transformed himself into a preacher of The Gospel According to second Corinthians 14 11 14 and 15. 15 that's why you shouldn't be alarmed when he stands behind the pulpit and preaches to the Christian church that God no longer requires obedience only faith only had knowledge he doesn't require anything of you now there's no obedience required do what you want to do and just have faith that when it's all over you'll be all right oh he preaches so well his smile is so big that he truly has deceived the whole world that's why you should not be surprised when his ministers preach his message on a weekly basis when they tell you that the law of Yahweh has been done away with it was nailed to the 16 cross when you hear those words you have heard someone tell you disobedience is now okay that's one sermon you would never have heard from the lips of Jesus Christ or Yeshua the Messiah and that is one of the first scriptures Revelations 12 and 9 that forever changed my theology now scripture number two Isaiah 59 and 2. 17 let's read it your iniquities have separated between you and your God and your sins have hid his face from you that he will not hear you according to this verse I had never understood that mankind all of humans were literally cut off from their creator that was a stunning scripture when I finally grasped the implication that this world as we know it today it's not God's world it's not the world that he instituted or created it is literally cut off from him held captive by an unseen kidnapper all of humanity has been deceived into believing the soothing words of their great kidnapper surely you 18 remember the story of the lady many years ago that was kidnapped and come to love her kidnapper the same thing has happened to the whole world they're kidnapped from God and don't even realize that they've been kidnapped and then turn around and blame God for the results of what their kidnapper has done to the whole world all of humanity has been deceived by their kidnapper 6 000 years ago Adam and Eve were first captured by this kidnapper and as a result all the inhabitants of the Earth ever after have been kidnapped willingly being held captive except for what we call the remnant or the 19 elect of God those people that the Holy Spirit has entered their lives and opened their eyes to see that at one time they were walking in the course of this world in love with their kidnapper worshiping their kidnapper as their God and they didn't even realize it and the Holy Spirit opened their eyes to know that the Son of God Yeshua the Messiah came to release them from the hold of their kidnapper uh beloved when I saw this scripture I knew immediately why people blame God for all the evil rather than the one that is holding them captive because they've been deceived that scripture helped me 20 to understand so many things now scripture number three First John 3 and 4 revolutionized my thinking when I tell you this one scripture fundamentally changed how I saw the Bible let me start with saying this if you were to ask me in days gone by what is sin it seems like a simple question however so few people know the answer to that question what is sin where do we go to Define what sin is where is the book where is the list how do we know what is sin well like many of you I've always been taught that the Commandments and the the Torah and all of the law was done away with and at one time 21 that told us what sin was but now we just pretty much make it up as we go along the truth is no one knows what sin is First John 3 and 4. 22 read it with me whoever commits sin has transgressed the law when I read that verse I ran into a problem because this is the New Testament first John mentioning the law now this is one of the greatest points in the Bible because it shows us the difference between what God approves of and what he does not approve of the Bible defines what sin is very simple when someone transgresses the law according to First John 3 and 4 he has sinned but now we have a major problem what law if it was nailed to the cross what law if it has been if it was a curse and it was done away with if the law has been 23 done away with then there is no more sin because according to First John 3 and 4 he that sends transgresses the law whenever you break one of America's laws you earn a penalty such as a fine or jail time or death likewise when we violate the law of God the Bible says that the wages of that sin is death okay just like if you break the speed limit sign there's a wage for that maybe a three hundred dollar fine when you break the law of God Yahweh there's a wage that you owe and that wage is not eternal torment that wage is death now wages are something that you earn as a payment for what you have 24 done if you sin which means what break God's law you will die eternally suddenly knowing what constitutes his law is extremely important because if you break that law there's a wage you've got to die eternally so don't you think someone should be able to tell you what's in that law what God approves of and what he does not approve of so that you won't die eternally the subject of what is God's law has been twisted and mangled it has been blurred beyond recognition however it's not complicated at all and the next few verses that I'm going to share with you verse number four is going to help you 25 understand it even more [Music] Matthew 5 17. 26 another verse 4 of 10 that forever changed my understanding of the word of God it's a verse that I must tell you I never heard this verse preached in my church never definitely never expounded upon let's read it this is yahshua Jesus speaking he says don't ever think that I have come to do away with the law or the prophets I have not come to destroy the law but to fulfill it now number one we have the words of Yeshua saying don't ever think I've come to do away with the law now remember in the verse we just talked about when you sin you transgress the law but according to the church the law is 27 done away with so now we have a dichotomy we we have a conundrum what is this law then we're taught yet Jesus did away with the law and here we have Jesus saying don't think that never think I came to do away with it but I did come to do something with the law I came to fulfill it now in the churches that most of us grew up in that word fulfill was somehow uh interpreted to us as end e and D in other words we seem to think that the word fulfill means and I didn't come to destroy the law but I came to end the law the word fulfill in this particular verse means to verify to fully preach to 28 perfect to fill up to make full that's from Strong's exhaustive Concordance of the Bible in other words Jesus came to verify and perfect the Torah The Ten Commandments the law of God to expand their meaning to its fullest intent truthfully he didn't come to do away with those Ten Commandments or the Torah he's actually going to bring them to an even more perfect level for us all to be able to look at his life and copy his life and obey the law in the way that he did it now Matthew Chapter 5 where we just read is filled with examples of how the Ten Commandments have been made even more binding 29 today than they were back then for instance yahshua said it was set by them verse 21 and verse 22 of old times you shall not murder but I say I love that here's what he does he says now here's the Ten Commandment don't ever think I come to do away with that no no no I'm fixing to even bring that to a greater level now where now it's going to be more binding than it ever was before let's continue but I say that whosoever is angry with his brother Without a Cause shall be in danger of the Judgment now let me ask you do you see that yahshua did away with that commandment or did he in fact bring 30 it to the Fuller meaning did he not expand it and perfect it that's what he said he came to do he said I didn't come to do away with it I came to fill it to the full let me ask you a quick question Heaven if you've ever heard of the law of gravity that law says or what about Newton's law what goes up must come down Newton's law anything that can go wrong will go wrong well the law of gravity if it goes up it must come down so whenever a plane goes in the air and if that plane falls to the ground it has what fulfill the law of gravity but how silly of us to think that it ended the law of 31 gravity no no no it showed you the full meaning of the law of gravity and Yeshua said he came to do the exact same thing instead of abolishing the law actually he came and magnified it and made it even more binding upon the believer and yet we're told that he came and nailed it to the cross and did away with it ministers in preachers in your church maybe they have Twisted these and other scriptures so much and they reject Jesus's plain meaning about the importance of keeping yahweh's loss they dismiss these clear verses such as when Paul said in Romans 3 and 31. 32 do we then make void the law through faith God forbid but rather we establish the law that verse fundamentally changed the way I saw my Bible now verse number five [Music] first John 5 and 3. 33 another verse that forever changed my thinking let's read it together for this is the love of God that we keep his Commandments and his Commandments are not burdensome or Grievous now let's compare that scripture with what maybe you heard at your church this Sunday God's laws were so burdensome and so Grievous that He sent Jesus to do away with them and now just love the Lord with all your heart you know that love is a it's a mystical word it it uh ethereal and if we're not careful we turn love into something that it's not love demands action love is a verb love requires the ultimate sacrifice 34 the Bible said If any man says that he loves God but doesn't keep the Commandments that man is a liar And yet when you ask people do I need to keep the Commandments including the fourth one remember the Sabbath day their answer is no you don't have to keep all of those laws just love God I'd like for you to ask that person how do I do that how do I love God what do I need to do should I what should I do how do I love God most people cannot answer you the Bible answers you plainly first John 5 and 3. 35 for this is loving God when you keep his Commandments great blessings flow when we keep God's Commandments ancient Israel was instructed to keep them because just like the whole Bible they form his instruction manual for our lives without the Commandments we are lost in the world many of you watching me now you will go to church this Sunday and you're going to hear how much God loves you and I have so glad he does without that love we would all be miserable and without hope but I don't think you're going to hear this Sunday at your church the opposite of that message what is the opposite it 36 goes like this okay God loves me and I'm in a relationship with God so doesn't that mean that I need to love him back and if so how do I do that you've told me that God loves me but I need you Pastor to teach me how to love God back if they don't have an answer for you first John 5 and 3 does for this is loving God this is the love of God that you keep his law and his Commandments now the sixth verse that forever changed my thinking [Music] Romans 13 and 10. 37 the Bible says love works no ill to his neighbor therefore love is the fulfilling of the law that verse shook my world it literally shook my world I've been taught the law was horrible it was burdensome but Paul said that the law is perfect the law is Holy and the law is good now the Bible defines love your neighbor can't Define love most people in Satan's deceived World cannot Define love for you but the Bible can't because the Bible says that love is obedience to God's law it is that simple if I love my wife if my wife loves me there is a sacrifice that's associated with that love there is 38 no ambiguity or confusion about it yet most people are ignorant of the true definition of love ministers all over Christianity speak endlessly they write books by the thousands about God's love while completely missing all of the scriptures that Define God's love like John 14 and 15 if you love me keep the law nowhere did Jesus or Yeshua ever say he who professes to love me yet breaks my Commandments still loves me no no no that is nowhere in your Bible let's let me say it again he that says he loves me and breaks the law still loves me no it's not what he said he said if a man says he loves 39 me and breaks my law he just lied if you are among the two billion people that profess Christianity two billion that profess it and if someone was to ask you tonight do you love Jesus Yeshua what would your answer be yes yes me I love him yes however how would you prove it what evidence could you provide that you love him it's a sobering question but it's one that you need to answer to most people love is little more than a vague idea that cannot be defined ask 100 people to Divine love and you'll get a hundred different responses everything from a feeling in the heart to just doing good a 40 wide range of ideas exist because few consult the only source that provides the absolute definition the first four Commandments the first four not serving false gods nor worshiping Idols besides Yahweh not taking yahweh's name in vain and observing the Sabbath day reveal how to love God the remaining six honor your father and your mother do not murder don't commit adultery don't steal don't bear false witness don't covet it that reveals how to love your neighbor the first four Commandments how to love God the last six how to love your neighbor that's why Jesus said that there's two 41 Commandments the greatest of The Commandments is to love the Lord your God and to love your neighbor as yourself because he was telling you that if you know those two you'll refer back to the ten to understand how to love God and how to love your neighbor consider before we go to the next verse let's just consider adultery most agree that adultery is not showing love to your spouse can we agree on that think of the devastation that results from it broken trust marriages homes children however contrary wise or conversely faithfulness shows love towards each other obeying the first four commands 42 shows love to God and yet most do not even know that these laws still apply to our lives do you know why because Satan has deceived the whole world by transforming himself into a preacher and convincing the church to just love God now the seventh verse that forever changed my thinking [Music] Saint Mark chapter 7 verse 6 through verse 9. 43 this really affected me a whole lot and I'm going to explain why when I think of a worshiper I've always thought that worship was when you raise your hands when you clap your hands when you cry when you you know that was worship and to me if you were worshiping God that was a good thing however the verses I'm about to read to you led me on a journey to find the difference between worshipers and true worshipers let's read it Mark chapter 7 verse 6 through 9. 44 Jesus is speaking here and he says Isaiah prophesied a few hypocrites as it is written this people honors me with their lips but their heart is far from me in vain do they worship teaching for doctrines the Commandments of men when I saw that scripture in vain do they worship me I knew right then there was a difference in Bible worship and vain worship and many times they look just alike let's read verse 8 and verse 9 same chapter for laying aside the Commandments of God the Torah you hold the tradition of men like washing of pots and cups and many other such things that you do full well you 45 reject the Torah but yet you keep your own church traditions let me give you an example in the Book of Psalms chapter 150 we are told exactly how to worship Yahweh when we come into the sanctuary we're told how he likes it and how he wants it it's in the word of God it's plain as day and yet ninety percent of the churches that I go to they ignore the plainness of that chapter and they keep their own way of doing Church their own tradition rejecting the word of God for their traditions boy this scripture hit me like a ton of bricks one day when I saw that worship is not accepted by Yahweh if 46 it's done your way it must be done the Bible way that's why at first Harvest Ministries we teach people how to properly praise and worship the god of Israel the way he demanded it but I'll tell you that verse tells us that we supplant the law of God for our Traditions let me give you another example real quickly before we go to the eighth verse that changed my thinking think about it the Commandments of God include the Sabbath day which is the seventh day of the week Saturday the law of God instructs us seven times a year to keep the holy festivals because they are still Shadows of things 47 still to come that's the Commandments of God but do you know what the church has done with those Commandments we've rejected them and replace them with our own Traditions you know Christmas Easter Valentine's New Year's in January Halloween on and on and on we've taken the word of God that's commanded and rejected it and held on to our traditions and using those Traditions to worship Yahweh after all we're doing all this for him but that's not how he commanded it to be done now the eighth verse that changed my thinking forever [Music] the Book of James chapter 2 verse 17 18 and 20. 48 mind-blowing written by the brother of Jesus or Yeshua and let's start at the let's start at the eighth verse and we'll go from there so faith if it has not works doesn't exist you have faith and I have works show me your faith without your works and I will show you my faith by my works but will you know o vain man that faith without works does not exist now this leads me to an interesting point verse 22. 49 see you how faith wrought with his works and by works was Faith made perfect I don't know about you but in the church I grew up in grace and works or mutually exclusive the word works would have gotten you thrown out of the church because after all it's not by works lest any man should boast we despise the word works and 95 probably of Christianity despises the word holiness sanctification or works and instead of joining faith and works together as the Bible does they make them enemies to one another this is a sad indictment on the Christian church the Bible says that in fact both are required 50 faith and works are required go back and read those verses again read them slowly until you get of it I want you to think of Salvation in this way let me give you an illustration a wealthy father approaches his son heading off to college with this offer son upon graduation I will give you one million dollars if you maintain a B average never get drunk and never cut classes now if this young man meets these conditions will he receive the million dollars yes has his conduct earned him that money no it was not his conduct that earned him the money the money was a gift of Grace given to him he 51 merely did what all young men should do at college yet he would not receive the million dollars if he did not meet the qualifiers of the free gift this young boy didn't go to the father and say can I have a million dollars he didn't do anything to earn it but he must do something to qualify for it he must meet the conditions salvation is the exact same way the Bible says that we can receive his offer of salvation there is nothing that you can ever do to earn salvation it is completely a gift from God no amount of commandment keeping can ever atone for violating God's law only the blood of 52 yahshua can do that however your reward in the next life after receiving salvation is determined by your works I never knew this in all of my Christian Life that what I do for God in this life will determine my reward in the next one the Commandments simply describe personal responsibility what you must do yet when it's fully understood obedience is not you doing it but rather Christ in you keeping the same Commandments that he kept two thousand years ago in the days of his flesh now he lives inside of you and he keeps them now through you let me give you one more verse that may clarify it for 53 you if I can Ephesians 2 4-6 but Yahweh is rich in Mercy for his great love wherewith he loved us even when we were dead in sin he has quickened us together with Christ and has raised us up together for by grace are you saved through faith and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God not of works lest any man should boast but we don't read the rest of the verse do we for we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works which God before ordained that we should walk in those good works the reason we come to Christ is not to get away from the law but for the law to get all 54 inside of us now the ninth verse that forever changed my thinking [Music] Matthew 4 and 4. 55 man shall not live my bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God I came to the point in my life when this verse came alive for me I realized that my very life has nothing to do with bread but it has to do with a continual proceeding of Truth out of the mouth of God through his word you see truth is not a destination truth is a journey and when you believe that you have all truth that you believe that God has quit speaking one of the scriptures that forever changed me was the one that says that he teaches us here a little and they're a little when you come to understand 56 that God is teaching you more and more and more then you will be willing to leave your own denomination your own religious background to follow after every word that is still proceeding from the mouth of God God never quit talking he doesn't quit revealing truth to you until you quit Desiring it until you quit longing for it don't let that be your sad testimony now for the tenth verse that forever changed my thinking preview [Music] Matthew 24 4-5 take heed that no man deceive you for many will come in my name saying I am Christ or I am a Christian and deceive many this is a very scary verse 57 because in this particular verse they're asking Yeshua what will be the sign of the end time how will we know that you're about to return and Yeshua says the first sign will be great deception but not deception from the world but it will be those that are preaching and praying in my name they have come as Christians they are the ones that will deceive many now let's go down a few verses to verse 11. 58 Matthew 24. 59 many false prophets will rise and deceive many Not only would false prophets deceive the great majority they would infiltrate even the church Christ warned us during the last days that false preachers preaching as Christians would seek to deceive the very elect if possible these ten verses changed the way I thought about Christianity and I pray that they have given you
