A Western-approved, internationally legitimized pathway for Tehran to develop nuclear weapons capability with the blessing of the very nations it had sworn to destroy. Pallets of cash. It tells us that at the time of the end — not the time of Babylon, not the time of Alexander the Great, but our time — a King of the South will push at the King of the North. Let us deal with the geography objection immediately, because it always comes up. Iran is east of Israel, not south. How can they be the King of the South? The directional designations in Daniel are positional and relational — not modern compass readings. The original King of the South in Daniel’s historical sections was Ptolemaic Egypt. The original King of the North was the Seleucid Empire based in Syria. These were the successor kingdoms of Alexander the Great that dominated the Middle East for centuries. But Daniel 11:40 jumps forward in time — past the historical fulfillments, past Rome, past the Crusades — to the time of the end. And at that point, we are looking for a power that fulfills the role and character of the southern aggressor. A power obsessed with Jerusalem. A power that pushes violently against a European-centered northern dominance. A power that leads a coalition of nations stretching across North Africa and the Persian Gulf. Now watch how Daniel eliminates every other candidate. Egypt — mentioned in verse 42 as a conquest of the King of the North after the southern push. Egypt is a victim in this narrative, not the aggressor. Egypt cannot be the King of the South. Libya and Ethiopia — mentioned in verse 43 as nations that follow the King of the South into alliance. They are followers, not leaders. They cannot be the King of the South. Turkey — covered extensively in the book of Obadiah with an entirely different prophetic assignment and role. Turkey is not the King of the South. Saudi Arabia and the Arab nations — Psalm 83 places them explicitly in alliance with the King of the North. They are on the wrong side of this conflict to be the southern aggressor. Process of elimination alone lands on Iran. But it is not merely elimination. Iran does not just survive the process of elimination by default. Iran actively fulfills every characteristic. The Character of the King of the South The Hebrew word translated push in Daniel 11:40 is the same word used in Exodus 21:28 for an ox goring someone with its horn. This is not a diplomatic protest. This is not economic pressure. This is not a strongly worded letter. This is a violent, piercing, deadly strike — the kind of strike that demands an overwhelming response. The kind of strike that does not leave the other party with a measured, proportional option. That is Iran’s foreign policy in one word. Since 1979, Iran has been the world’s most prolific exporter of revolutionary terrorism. They have armed Hezbollah in Lebanon. They have funded Hamas in Gaza. They have backed the Houthis in Yemen — using them to attack Red Sea shipping lanes and strangle global trade. Egypt’s obsessions are the Nile, regional power, and economic survival. The Jerusalem obsession belongs to Iran alone — and specifically to the Twelver theology that sits at the controls of the Iranian government. Now apply this to nuclear weapons. Every arms control framework ever devised assumes that nuclear armed states fear nuclear war. That assumption is the entire foundation of nonproliferation theory. What happens when a nuclear-armed state does not fear nuclear war — but welcomes it? YAHWEH raised up Donald Trump for this moment — and chief among his assignments was the protection of Israel. If you want to understand Donald Trump — not the political figure, not the media caricature, but the prophetic instrument — you have to go to 2 Kings 14. There you will find a king named Jeroboam II. Not a perfect man. Not a righteous king by the standard of Torah. The text is clear that he did evil in the sight of YAHWEH. And yet. “He restored the coast of Israel.” Why? How could YAHWEH use an imperfect, flawed, politically controversial king to accomplish something so significant? Because YAHWEH saw the affliction of Israel — and because there was no one else. The text says YAHWEH had not said He would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven — and so He raised up Jeroboam to save them. Not because Jeroboam deserved it. Because Israel’s survival required it. Write that down. Understand it deeply. Because it is the entire theological framework for Donald Trump’s presidency. YAHWEH did not raise up Trump because Trump is a saint. YAHWEH raised up Trump because He had not said He would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven — and there was a regime one week away from the weapon that its own theology demands it use to do exactly that. Iran’s entire eschatological purpose is the destruction of Israel and the conquest of Jerusalem. Their messiah cannot return until that happens. That is not foreign policy. That is not rhetoric. That is a declared theological mission to blot out the name of Israel from under heaven. And YAHWEH raised up a Jeroboam. Every other nuclear-armed nation on earth operates within a framework of deterrence, negotiation, and managed coexistence. America does not demand that China disarm. America does not demand that India disarm. America does not demand that Pakistan disarm. But Iran is different. And the reason Iran is different is not geopolitical. It is not strategic.
