Summary

This short transcript presents George Washington’s 1789 Thanksgiving Proclamation. The proclamation calls upon the American people to acknowledge Almighty God, obey His will, thank Him for His benefits, and seek His continued protection. It attributes the nation’s independence, peace, unity, constitutional government, civil liberty, religious liberty, and prosperity to divine providence. The message is strongly devotional and national in character, but it contains no explicit Scripture citation or uniquely identifiable biblical passage. Therefore, no Scriptures have been indexed.
