embarked upon a campaign of religious persecution he was a Christian King who wanted every citizen to be part of his church alone there was no freedom of worship he targeted anyone that refused to adhere to the to the tenants of the Church of England the Church of England under King James I was persecuting anyone and everyone who did not recognize the absolute Spiritual Authority of the state church now that is why in our constitution it tells us that there would be no State (00:55) Church many people think that that means there would be no religion involved in government that's not what it means it means that they just came from England where there was an official church and we made sure that in our nation there would be many churches of your choice and that there would be no State Church anyone that challenged this ecclesiastical Authority and those who believed in the freedom of worship were hunted down and thrown in the tower this was in the 1600s now remember America became a nation in 17 well the war for it (01:41) 1776 so this is only a hundred some odd years earlier that they all went through this Terror they were hunted down and imprisoned and sometimes executed for their beliefs within that Christian Church in England there was a small group of people and these people also were Christians but they are what I refer to as fundamentalist Christians hardcore true believers they literally believed that God's word was the ultimate Authority in our lives above any man or woman they were a church within a church they were a nucleus or a (02:36) Remnant inside of the rest they were a wheel in the middle of a wheel who were these people ah they may be some of your grandparents and great-grandparents these people were called many names they were called separatist because they would separate themselves from the main Church from the Babylonian system they were ridiculed because they were too Christian for the Christians they were extra they literally made Christmas illegal in the United States when they founded it they were that driven to separate themselves (03:26) from paganism Pagan practices and all the different things of the world they were literally separatist they separated themselves from the Christian Church even though they themselves were Christian they were also uh called uh pilgrims and uh these separatists did not want any part of this tyranny in England so they fled from England to the nation of Holland when they got to Holland they established their own Community now they were also known as Puritans or Saints and they fled England to Holland where they thrived happily for 11 (04:17) years now about 40 I find this number to be interesting among that community of separatist 40 of them chose to leave Holland and make a perilous Journey to the new world they had heard about this new world some new exciting place that had not yet been developed they knew that they would face hardships hardships like you and I could never even imagine we have no idea the hardship that they endured we can't we're too advanced we're in a total different world now people that lived in the 1600s they would not believe your life (05:10) today your mind cannot wrap around the hardships that they went through to establish a new Israel as they called it a Promised Land as they called it to establish a nation built on the word of God they knew they would face these hardships but that's not what was important to them what what was important to them was living freely and worshiping God according to their own conscience their own beliefs not to be told that they were crazy because of what they believed not to be told that they were extreme because they literally believe (05:56) the Bible no no no they wanted to come to a world and create a world where freedom of religion was the most important of everything they were denied that freedom in England so on August the 1st 1620 the Mayflower set sail it carried a total of 102 passengers if you take the zero out of that number you get 12 interesting is it not among that 102 passengers 40 of them 40 of them were pilgrims 40 of them had come from Holland 40 of them the number of testing and trial and tribulation is the number 40 40 of them were separatist they were (06:53) pilgrims this group of Believers Christian Believers Bible believers were led by a man by the name of Reverend William he was a devout man determined to begin life brand new across the Wilderness of ocean treacherous Beyond any of our understanding two ships were commission from Holland one was named the speed well and the other the Mayflower they were both anchored in England and so these Believers went from Holland back to England to get on the ship however the speed well did not make the voyage as originally intended only the (07:48) Mayflower did the ship was so very small compared to today's standards it was only about 50 ft that vessel was was on a 50t ship 102 passengers with 40 pilgrims were packed either on the upper level of the ship which was freezing remember it was uh November it's winter time it was freezing they were exposed to all the elements on that main deck if they were not on the top deck then they were in the bottom Deck with the putridity of the excrement of human beings it was a filthy horrible situation that some of your grandparents (08:40) endured for freedom I cannot overemphasize how religious these people were this is why I tell people that before America was a nation America was a church because these 40 pilgrims that would come on the Mayflower would establish the very first written Constitution for these United States they were a church before America was a nation a nation birthed from the church don't ever forget that they were people that believed the Bible and AED it and revered it they believed it was infallible sort of like me it was their (09:35) conviction they believed that they were part of a great and final Exodus that's why they endured crossing the water because they kept looking back to Israel in their Bible how Israel crossed the water and they truly believe from a prophetic word given to them that they they were also going across the Red Sea on this journey Reverend set up an agreement he sat down and started writing out a government for these 40 people a contract that they would all sign and it would establish just and equal laws for all 40 members of this (10:25) Pilgrim Community they were agreeing to live by these laws now where did the revolutionary ideas of the Mayflower Compact where did it come from what where did they get the laws that they wrote in that contract that Bradford wrote from the word of God absolutely the Mayflower Compact was from the word of God these pilgrims were completely steeped in lessons from the Old Testament the Torah and the new they were devoutly religious people they looked when they were making the compact who did they look at the ancient (11:17) Israelites in the Torah for their example because they too understood that they were the Lost tribes of Israel as they crossed over the ocean blue they never doubted that they would succeed on this AR Jewish Journey they never doubted that once they got there they would Thrive their Journey was long it was arduous it was dangerous and when they finally landed they landed in New England in the month of November now right now in your mind put your yourself in New England right now with the weather the way it is (12:04) only to get worse when they landed in November do you think they land they landed to a harvest of crops or there was a bunch of vegetation growing for them to eat and survive no they landed in the harshness of Winter According to William BR detailed journal and we have it thank God what they found was a Wilderness cold and Barren they found a desolate Wilderness there was no friends to greet them when they got there there was no shelter of any kind there was no one waving at them welcoming them to their new home there was nothing it was (12:55) desolate there were no hotels there were no beded in breakfast there was no place to just clean up there was no restrooms for the ladies to slip away to there were no houses this was real hardship the sacrifice they made just for the freedom to worship now this is a list at the top of the Mayflower passengers all 40 of these people started out together but through the first winter look at the bottom and you'll see how many survived less than half survived that first winter the sacrifice that your forefathers made for the freedom to (13:50) worship was just the beginning Thanksgiving my friends is not understood like it should be it is a religious holiday I'm going to explain that more to you now so that you can know the truth Thanksgiving is a celebration of the word of God a celebration of the Bible that they believed in for surviving the they should not have any survived that first winter it was their faith that sustained these pilgrims they had a prophetic word that they would make it and that they would Thrive and they trusted in the word of God through that first winter and (14:40) through the Relentless struggle for mere survival they kept quoting a verse of scripture William wrote it in his diary he said they would quote it daily just like you and I they needed the word of God daily in their minds they would quote Hebrews 11 33-35 says these words who through faith subdued kingdoms worked righteousness obtained promises stopped the mouths of lions quenched the violence of fire escaped the edge of the sword out of weakness they were made strong they became valant in battle they turned to (15:25) flight the enemies of the aliens women receive their dead raised to life again that was the verses that sustained your forefathers what caused them to Desert the Comforts of Holland to Desert the safety of their home to Hazard The Frigid sea whose breaking wav surmounted the Mayflower and it rained edged shard of salt seawater down on them day and night what impelled them to do this it was a concrete faith and a concrete word and a redeemer and his power to guide his children through the storm and it persuaded them to go (16:22) through the Towering sea and it will be the same faith that has brought you and I through these three years of storm fear for our nation they made landfall in New England and you would think their trials have ended they've arrived hardly hardly their faith was about to be tested on the land greater than it was on the sea half of them would be dead before Winter's end including the preacher's wife mistress she died during that first winter and she died of starvation sickness exposure to the snow of New England I want you to think about that (17:16) no houses to live in William read Hebrews 11 when his wife died whenever he lost everything over a promise he lost everything over a prophecy now let's get closer to the part they taught you in school when spring came we say that so nonchalantly and the spring came oh but for them the spring came none too soon spring didn't just come It came it was a survival for them that we cannot comprehend but they survived it half of them they did in the springtime finally meet the Indians the Native Americans who were there helped them in planting corn and (18:21) fishing for COD we were not enemies with the Indians at all until the Indians invaded Jamestown and slaughtered our people but before then we we were neighbors with the Indians they showed them how to get the beavers and their skins to keep them warm the animal right people would have had a heart attack back then but even at this even with the Indians helping them there was no Prosperity yet at all it was still a struggle to survive they had the Mayflower Compact they had the laws that they were living by but there was (19:08) no Prosperity do you wonder why in the Land of Plenty they had all the land they could have wanted why was there no Prosperity this is the part of Thanksgiving that very few people understand that's why I titled tonight's monologue Thanksgiving our annual warning because this part of Thanksgiving no one talks about it is now up to you Mom and Dad what I'm about to teach you next for you to teach your children this Thanksgiving why was there no Prosperity because this is where you and I lose the story in school they don't teach past (20:01) the Indians taught us how to eat the Indians taught us how to fish and that's where the story ends and yes they had a great Thanksgiving meal in thanks to their God for surviving the winter but that is not all of the story let's tell the rest of the story Thanksgiving is usually explained in our textbooks as a holiday for which the pilgrims gave thanks to the Indians for their successes that did happen but Thanksgiving was not a day of thanking the Indians it was a day of thanking God Yahweh for their survival (20:50) and everything that was part of their survival including the Indians help now even even though we were greatly helped by the Indians the greatest threat that we faced was not from the Indians rather it was from the nation of Holland allow me to explain please listen closely when the pilgrims left Holland the ship they traveled on was not free it had to be sponsored and it was sponsored by wealthy people in Holland those sponsors were Merchants that lived in London and Holland and these Merchants demanded okay here's the money here's (21:43) some food here's the ship go find the new world and when you get there set up a community and when you get there you're going to hold everything in in common stay with me Patriots I'm about to teach you something when you get there you're going to create a common Unity or a community there's going to be One Bank in that community and every member of the community is going to work equally and they're going to combine all of their resources in that one bank and each member of the community will get one share the pilgrims were required to hold (22:37) their property their crops and their lands in common any profit was to be deposited in a common store doesn't that sound utopian doesn't that sound just beautiful doesn't that sound grandiose Kumbaya perfect world it nearly killed the pilgrims so the problem that they could not Prosper was because of this agreement with Holland they were covenanted into a commune today we call that Socialism or Marxism and it nearly killed every Pilgrim settler that year it was an existential threat to the Republic then just like it is today so (23:36) everyone has an equal share they get the same amount of food stamps they get the same health benefits everyone had an equal share in that first Pilgrim Community because that's the way Holland Europe set it up all of the land that they cleared they worked night and day clearing land with machetes all of the houses they built from the land belong to the bank or the community and they were going to distribute that equally because they wanted to be fair they wanted to be good Democrats where everyone gets an equal (24:17) shot so all the land all the houses built belong to everybody it belonged to the community to the bank to the common store nobody owned anything they had an equal share now William wrote in his journal what a nightmare it was he became the governor of the colony because he was the leader he was the pastor he said in his diary that this was destroying them it was not working it was collectivism socialism that first winter had taken a lot of lives and therefore their Workforce was not very large the Manpower was greatly (25:06) reduced so William decided to take bold action and I'm going to describe to you what he did was the governor of that colony and he wrote that fit able bodied men were capable of Labor and service and they were doing nothing they complained that they were being required to work for other men's wives and children without being compensated they considered that to be an injustice quickly remedied this by immediately introducing private property ownership and the resulting boom in that Prosperity because of that decision made (26:02) that Colony so prosperous that they had a bounty of everything and it was that Bounty that created Thanksgiving the celebration that we know so much about today is a celebration really of God and capitalism and private property ownership what makes America so successful it was not the help of the Indians that gave them this great Prosperity it the help of the Indians gave them survival but you see ladies and gentlemen that's what's wrong with America today people just want to survive rather than Prosper scrubbed socialism he threw it (26:51) out and he assigned it a plot of land to each family he told each family you own it it's yours work it manage it however you wanted to do it if you want to develop it if you want to grow a crop that'll be your crop whatever you want if you want to build houses or business on it it will be yours he turned loose the power of capitalism ladies and gentlemen what he did that day was was create the the American dream socialism nearly killed them they found out it did not work because nobody wanted to do anything there was no (27:39) incentive nothing worked by Distributing everything equally nobody had any Drive in them and they were starving to death so when they scrapped it permanently here's what wrote in his diary he said that uh the community was found to breed much confusion and discontent they were not happy he said this community was found to breed content and much employment that would have been to their benefit and comfort can I break that down for you he said we the growth of our community with socialism nobody wanted to work nobody wanted to go to (28:31) work nobody wanted to because they were afraid I'm going to do more work than them and they're getting the same amount from the store that I'm getting do you understand wrote that after he instituted capitalism they had very good success it made all hands industrious so as much more corn was planted than other otherwise would have been as soon as that's your land and all the corn on it is yours people became industrious profit was introduced the the opportunity to prosper went Gang Busters and that created the (29:18) Bounty of Thanksgiving and this is where it gets really good they set up Trading post and exchange their profit with the Indians that's right now there's excess corn to sell to the Indians now there's excess everything to barter with the Indians and begin to produce prosperity and it was from that Prosperity that they gathered together for a Thanksgiving to God for their their Bounty because they had never had a bounty they had barely survived it's when they introduced capitalism that they turned the individuals loose to produce their (30:13) incentive they said keep what you produce sell what you don't need this is not something they were taught by anybody but rather self-experience it was not the Indians that created Thanksgiving no no no it was the Bounty of capitalism they sold things prophets allowed them to pay off their debts in Holland and you know what the success of that Colony after they abandoned socialism the word spread throughout the old world of this massive amount of prosperity that there was taking place in the New World and guess what happened the new world (31:00) was flooded with arrivals of people that wanted to go to work so this when you this week Thursday when you celebrate Thanksgiving you are celebrating individual property rights individualism you are celebrating the individual Spirit of success why do I say this is our annual warrant morning because as we Teeter towards socialism let Thanksgiving be a reminder to us of what hard work individual property individual homeownership let's remember what we are celebrating number one the god that gave it all to us and then the human spirit (31:53) that took it all and made something out of it it I pray you have a blessed Thanksgiving May
