Shane Vaughn Teaches; The Evolution of Revival - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhUIeFFT9MI Transcript: (00:02) [Music] h [Music] [Music] and then a Revival happened and everything came to life whenever the spirit of the Lord is getting ready to do something uh there's always going to be a stirring among the Earth and among the people there's been many different revivals that has happened throughout my lifetime and even before my lifetime but there seems to be certain moments when (01:08) the Holy Ghost begins to move upon people and there seems to be an Awakening that happens uh at certain periods of time now every Revival that's ever happened and there's not been very many but the ones that have happened have been powerful during the Catholic period of the world that was called the Dark Ages now the reason it was called the Dark Ages is because there seemed to be no move of God happening in the world when the Catholics were in power it was a dry Darkness upon the land now during the time of the Catholic (01:57) Revival if you will there was a group of people people called The waldensians Who were faithful to keep the Sabbath day the waldensians were killed by the pope one day over 3,000 of them because they would not forsake the Sabbath and anyway after that period of time there was a man by the name of Martin Luther and God used Martin Luther to stir up the Catholic Church Martin Luther was the first Revival that we've had since the Dark Ages Martin Luther was the man that created the Lutheran church now follow me tonight the Lutheran Church this is so (02:48) funny at one time is where the power of God was moving that's right do we have a Lutheran Church in this town you all know if we have one we do well go by there and see if the power of God is still moving now one time the Lutheran Church was that's where Revival was now what is Revival it's when your eyes begin to be open and that there's an an excitement that takes place within you and it's a Revival because you're being awakened to the things of God now after the Lutheran Church the Wesley Brothers begin to ride across the (03:34) country preaching the Wesley Methodist message and another Revival begin to stir across the land after the Wesley and Methodist by the way at one time if you wanted to go where God was moving you went to the Methodist Church they used to be called the shout Methodist why because they shouted just like the Pentecostal here and that's a fact at one time the Methodist Church was the church but why because God had visited the Methodist people he had woke them up he had stirred them to living a Sanctified life now after that there was another (04:20) group of people called the anabaptist they came out of the Methodist Church and God was moving among the Baptist people people now there was a time if you wanted to be in a red hot service you had to go to the Baptist Church well we know that story they all died and went into uh denominationalism and then after that in the early 1900s there was another Revival and it was with Charles parum among the Pentecostal people and then for about 50 years if you wanted to be where God was moving you had to go to the Pentecostal (05:08) Church then in the 1950s there was another movement called the charismatic movement where God be to stir up people to the gifts of the Spirit and there was a new Hunger among those people to see miracles signs and wonders and God was moving among the charismatics till about the late 1990s and then that movement began to die off and the fire begin to die among them now in my text tonight I read to you about Elijah the Prophet Elijah came to Israel and prophesied over them that they were going to have a drought he said there's going to be no rain in (06:04) this land until I say so now the first thing that you would ask yourself is why would God bring a drought upon his own People Israel was God's people yahweh's chosen bride but yet God send a prophet today the church there's a drought coming not the world but the drought was coming to Israel and you wonder why did God bring a drought to his people why would God withhold a good thing from his people especially something as valuable as rain and some as valuable as water why would God withhold a good thing from his people the modern Church teaches you (07:10) that God will withhold no good thing from you is't that what they teach us but yet here's Elijah saying God is going to withhold the reain well you've got to understand that in the Old Testament it's a shadow of the new so when we see this Prophecy in the Old Testament we have to ask ourselves how does it apply to our life and the day that we're living in well brothers and sisters rain is a symbol of the Holy Spirit the spirit of God now every Church in the world is praying tonight for an outpouring of the latter (07:57) Reign and the reason they're doing that that is because when you get the rain you get the blessings when you get the rain you get the blessing and everybody wants the rain but the thing that we fail to realize is that the latter rain is made up of something called water right how do you have rain without water well the problem is this people want the latter rain but they don't want the water they want the rain but they fail to realize the rain is made up of water and what is water the symbol of in the word of God the (08:45) word what does he wash us with the word the problem with every Revival before now and before this last Great Awakening that's happening all over the world world people are welcoming the latter rain but they do not welcome the word of God and therefore without the word being revealed to you the rain has no substance that's why before now every Revival has died because people accept the rain without the word and what begins to happen every move of God starts off with a message please hear me now Martin Luther had a (09:44) message what was his message come out of Babylon that was the message that started the Protestant movement John Wesley came along with a message what was his message sanctification live a holy life that was his message and his Revival started with a message here come the Baptist what was their message water baptism by immersion their movement started with a message here came the Pentecostal what was their message be filled with the Holy Ghost that was their message that was how the movement started was with a (10:31) message but what begins to happen when there's a message there begins to be rain and then the power of God begins to move after the message comes comes the rain because the message is what brings the rain but what happens brother Patrick is after the rain starts everyone Embraces the rain and rejects the message that started it now Elijah stood before Israel and said there's going to be no rain in this land why God because I will not send the message the rain is the message I will not send a message to a church that doesn't want (11:37) it there'll be no rain here no Revelation no message why Israel because you love the rain but you hate the water God sent Elijah to stop the rain why because God's message to this generation is precious to him it's an Awakening message that I'm preaching that many others are preaching but the church is waiting for the rain to fall signs and wonders and miracles but when you reject the water you have stopped the rain in this place this ministry was started with a (12:41) message and you tried to turn it into a church you'll stop the rain what do I mean by that every time God begins to move we turn it into a denomination every single time every time God begins to wake us up from that we run back to that every Elijah said to Israel the rain is over for you it's over for you why because God's not sending his word word anymore oh I couldn't understand I couldn't understand why the things have happened that had happened with me in a certain group and I (13:44) couldn't understand it and today the Lord showed me he said cuz you almost fell right back into what you're preaching against hallelujah hallelujah he said I called you out of that and you were going back into that and I had to stop it so that the rain could come we need the rain Elijah said it's God's done with the rain here why you have rejected it without the word so somebody say without the message without the message the rain has no substance here's what I mean listen to me the charismatic Revival has turned (14:41) into a Fluff Revival why everybody's standing there waiting for their blessing they're waiting for the signs the G but they left the message that God started that movement with you can't leave the message and expect the rain true there's people in this ministry that have left and I'm going to tell you how come they left they never heard the message they wanted me to be a pastor they wanted them to be church folk they wanted to turn this into a church they wanted to turn me into a pastor they wanted to make us a (15:22) traditional church and let me tell you something I came to tell you tonight the rain stops the minute this message stops and that's the bottom line Elijah said the Lane's over why God's people reject it let me tell you something there's nothing more precious than the revelation of who Yeshua is there's nothing more precious than the revelation of who we are in him we have a message tonight don't train it for rain Hallelujah brother V we want to see Miracles let me tell you something we want to see Gold Dust We want to see (16:07) signs and wonders let me tell you something the problem is this I call that the residue of Revival not the reason for that's the residue of it that happens on accident that's resue but the root of Revival is a message of waking up out of your sleep out of your church out of your denominations out of your pickle that you got yourself in Hallelujah without the word see let's that's what's happened to these churches today got a lot of rain falling but not being washed in the water of the world and you see it's like (16:58) water off of a d back they get a feeling but they don't get a change this is more precious to me tonight that it's ever been I've given up my life for this because I believe every word of this message this is who we are we don't argue and debate and fight over Church stuff around here that's right that's right the minute you try to turn us into that I will shut this thing down faster than I started it I will never be that man never never never why because this is Elijah's prophecy there'll be no rain here in the (17:46) church in Israel listen to me let's go to Amos 8 verse 11 and 12 thank you Lord when you start getting hungry for the rain Yes more than the water then you've missed the whole point thank you brother Amos 8 verse 11 and verse 12 all right it says these words Behold the days come now this is a prophecy about the future behold the days will come says father Yahweh that I will send a famine in the land not not a famine of bread nor a thirst of water but of hearing the words of Yahweh the law and the prophets they will wonder from sea to (18:44) Sea and from the north to the east they will run back and forth seeking the word of Yahweh the law and the prophets but they will not find God said I'm going to send a famine to the church now listen what kind of famine not of the preaching of the word but of what wake up sh but of the hearing of the word plenty of preaching going on but not a lot of hearing there is a famine in the church today people cannot hear the revelation of this hour how does this happen let's go to Romans 1: 25 Romans 1 and 25 how does this happen how does this (19:45) happen how is it that people just cannot hear the truth no matter how plain you make it here's your answer Romans 1:25 let's start at let's just yell verse 25 who exchanged the truth of Yahweh for a lie and worshiped and served the creation the man more than the Creator who is blessed forever for this reason Yahweh gives them up for what reason they would rather hear a lie than the truth and you know what Yahweh does when a church wants to hear lies you know what he just said he gives them up he sends a f famine to that (20:48) church he sent a famine to that Ministry this is so important some of you so you've got to the that's in the church today is because of God's he turns them over to what what they love Easter bunnies and eggs he just turns them over he's done he's through they heard the message they rejected it and he said Elijah tell them ain't no more rain no more preaching no more Revelation coming to them none he had opened the windows of Heaven to Israel he poured out Revelation they didn't want it they wanted a lie so he (21:34) said here you go no more Revelation take the LIE and and eat your ass why because they they would rather have the LIE than the truth you don't believe me look around tonight they would rather now look in this place Sunday morning for Easter oh yeah they W alive that's right you ask the question why can't they see this truth God has blinded them because they don't want it he said there won't be no more rain here what's rain the word there'll be no more Revelation in this place or any other place why I'm refusing to send you (22:26) rain what is rain rain is where when that man of God stands before you and unveils the mysteries of God reveals this word to you and it means more to you than gold dust it means more to you than death ears being open it me more in you than what you can get out of God it is for everything until you get there he will stop the rain a famine of hearing is prophesied upon the church let's go to 1st Samuel 8 6-7 1 Samuel 8 6-7 Hallelujah I'm going to show you right here now if you'll stay with me I tell you you would think if we (23:30) didn't have nobody here the ones that was here would stay in here my Lord hallelujah I I tell you a different Church world than I grew up in 1 Samuel 8 and 7 this is real 6 and seven but these things displease Samuel especially when they said give us a presiding Bishop to judge us or a king I'm sorry then Samuel talk to God about it Yahweh answered Samuel and said listen to all the words the people speak would you to listen listen to what the people saying for they have not rejected you they the church has rejected Ed (24:31) me that I should not be their King hear what God is saying this ain't me I'm too tired to preach this is the word of Yahweh to the whole world right now coming to you don't ask for a manmade government when Yahweh wants to be your Sovereign King don't ask for another Abomination when he wants to lead you out of the egyp land do you know why God didn't want to have a king because before that he was revealing himself to them through Samuel through the prophet God raised up a man that didn't want to be their King you I (25:26) don't I don't want to be nobody sing I don't want to be a pastor I want to be a voice in the wilderness crying out make ready the way of the Lord don't give me a king give me a message a revelation of the king we must learn he told Samuel listen to what they say they say they need this give it to them because what they said is this thank you God for what you've told us already but we're going to take what you've told us now and we're going to find a man that'll lead us and we're going to build us a church around what (26:11) we heard not what we're hearing or what we're going to hear but what we heard every move of God starts off with hearing from God don't you understand don't you know that every great church started off with a word from God and then they built a church and then they went to the conference room and they drew up their bylaws and then they wrote down their statement of faith let me tell you let me tell you something you listen to me watching around the world you can take a statement of faith and put it on a toilet paper roll and put it in your (26:55) bathroom cuz when you're walking with God that's about how long a stay of Faith blast you cuz it's changing every day it's changing every day why because your vision of him is changing your sight is clearing up every day your eyes are opening to a greater revelation of who he is but if you don't let him be king he can't reveal himself to you that's right they told Samuel give us a King Samuel said to them all that you would have allowed Yahweh to lead you you would already be in the promised land you would already be where he (27:44) wanted you to go but every move of God is cursed with a king good good Lord revealed to me today CU I was struggling he said H how can you come out and go back in come on but there's some folks that like that they like having that they don't want they can care less about the message it's about the the mechanics it's about the the machine it's about all of that but I'm going to tell you when you decide that you have learned what you're going to learn God will send a prophet to tell you no more rain here amen now the sad thing about it is they (28:33) still think it's raining right that's the saddest thing about it they still think it's raining but when you get to the point in God that you cannot see anything further than what you've already seen you have reached the point where there is no more rain and when does God turn you over to that point when you prefer the LIE over the truth Israel refused to hear the truth from the prophets so God withheld his word have you ever been in a church and you sit there and listen to the preacher and you look around at the (29:13) people and they are just so happy that they're not hearing nothing oh they're so happy that they're not hearing nothing you know why that is because there's no hunger in them for truth so therefore God's not sending them truth everybody's playing the game paying the king and going home what want and that is not who we are that's not who we'll ever be Yahweh sent Elijah to a foreign let me tell you let me tell you what God did to Israel and you know what God did he sent their prophet Isaiah and moved him out of the (29:54) land so they couldn't hear the word of the Lord why would God do that why would God send the prophet out of Israel because God don't waste his servants on people that don't want to hear in the early 1900s a sovereign move of God began but they denominated it every movement denominates God sends people to wake you up and if you will not wake up he sends them away he stops the Revelation you know when he's going to stop the Revelation brother Patrick when all of a sudden this Revelation does matter to you when all of a sudden you just rather (30:56) be part of a good church than stop and you know what's so sad you'll be fine with it you won't even realize you're not being receiving the word of the Lord you'll be

Summary

1. The recurring pattern of revival — 00:02–01:08 Vaughn begins by describing revival as a time when spiritual life returns and people become awakened to the things of Yahweh. He teaches that before significant spiritual movements, there is often a stirring among people. He introduces the idea that revival has occurred in different periods of history, with each movement carrying a particular message. 2. The Dark Ages and the Waldensians — 01:08–01:57 Vaughn describes the period of Catholic dominance as a time of spiritual darkness. He refers to the Waldensians as Sabbath-keeping believers who experienced persecution. He claims that thousands were killed because they refused to abandon the Sabbath. He uses this account to illustrate the struggle between religious institutions and those he believes were preserving divine truth. 3. Martin Luther and the Lutheran revival — 01:57–03:34 Vaughn identifies Martin Luther as the beginning of a major awakening following the Dark Ages. He associates Luther with the establishment of the Lutheran movement. He argues that the Lutheran Church once represented a place where divine power was active. He defines revival as the opening of spiritual understanding accompanied by excitement and awakening. 4. Wesley, Methodism, and sanctification — 03:34–04:20 Vaughn describes the Wesley brothers traveling and preaching. He emphasizes the Methodist movement's message of sanctification and holy living. He recalls Methodists being known for enthusiastic worship and shouting. He presents Methodism as another example of a movement that began with spiritual awakening. 5. Baptists, Pentecostals, and charismatics — 04:20–05:08 Vaughn discusses the Anabaptists and Baptist movement. He associates their awakening with baptism by immersion. He then describes the early twentieth-century Pentecostal movement associated with Charles Parham. He says Pentecostalism became a major center of spiritual activity. He identifies the charismatic movement beginning in the 1950s as a further awakening focused on spiritual gifts, miracles, signs, and wonders. He argues that this movement declined toward the end of the twentieth century. 6. Elijah announces drought to Israel — 05:08–07:10 Vaughn turns to the account of Elijah declaring that rain would cease in Israel. He asks why Yahweh would withhold something as valuable as rain from his own people. He emphasizes that the judgment was directed toward Israel, not the surrounding nations. He introduces the principle that Old Testament events can provide prophetic illustrations for the contemporary church. 7. Rain, water, and the latter rain — 07:10–08:45 Vaughn identifies rain as a symbol of the Holy Spirit. He describes churches praying for an outpouring of the latter rain. He explains that rain consists of water. He then identifies water as a symbol of Yahweh's word. His argument is that believers cannot receive a lasting spiritual outpouring while rejecting the word that provides its substance. 8. The message must come before the manifestations — 08:45–10:31 Vaughn teaches that every genuine revival begins with a message. He identifies Luther's message as coming out of Babylon. He identifies Wesley's message as sanctification. He identifies the Baptist message as immersion baptism. He identifies the Pentecostal message as receiving the Holy Ghost. He teaches that these messages produced awakening and were followed by spiritual manifestations. 9. Why revival movements lose their vitality — 10:31–11:37 Vaughn explains that the spiritual excitement following a message can become more attractive than the message itself. He argues that people begin embracing the rain while rejecting the water. He applies Elijah's drought to churches that no longer desire divine revelation. He teaches that Yahweh may stop sending a message to people who do not want to hear it. 10. The warning against turning a message into a denomination — 11:37–13:44 Vaughn says the present awakening message is precious to Yahweh. He warns that First Harvest Ministries could lose its purpose if it became merely another conventional church. He argues that revival movements repeatedly become denominations. He recalls personal difficulties involving a group and his concern that the ministry was being drawn back toward the structures it had rejected. 11. Personal correction and the preservation of the ministry — 13:44–14:41 Vaughn says he came to believe that Yahweh had stopped him from returning to conventional religious structures. He interprets the experience as divine protection of the ministry's calling. He repeats that the rain has no substance without the message. He begins criticizing the later charismatic movement for placing too much emphasis on blessings. 12. The root and residue of revival — 14:41–16:58 Vaughn criticizes the pursuit of signs, wonders, gold dust, and personal blessings as ends in themselves. He distinguishes the root of revival from its residue. The root is the awakening message. The residue consists of supernatural manifestations that may accompany the message. He argues that people may experience powerful feelings without undergoing lasting transformation. 13. The identity of First Harvest Ministries — 16:58–17:46 Vaughn describes his personal commitment to the ministry's message. He says the ministry must not become a conventional church focused on religious disputes and institutional expectations. He expresses willingness to end the ministry rather than abandon its original calling. He returns to Elijah's warning that spiritual rain can cease when Yahweh's people reject his word. 14. Amos's prophecy of a famine of hearing — 17:46–18:44 Vaughn explicitly directs the congregation to Amos 8:11–12. He reads the prophecy of a famine that is not a shortage of bread or water but a famine of hearing Yahweh's words. He emphasizes the reference to people searching for the word and failing to find it. He interprets this as a warning about spiritual deprivation. 15. Preaching without hearing — 18:44–19:45 Vaughn distinguishes between the presence of preaching and the ability to hear. He argues that churches can have abundant sermons without receiving revelation. He claims that the contemporary church is experiencing a famine of hearing. He introduces Romans 1:25 as an explanation for why people become unable to receive truth. 16. Exchanging truth for a lie — 19:45–20:48 Vaughn reads Romans 1:25. He emphasizes the exchange of divine truth for falsehood. He teaches that Yahweh may give people over to what they prefer. He applies this principle to congregations that reject revelation. 17. Religious traditions and spiritual blindness — 20:48–22:26 Vaughn criticizes churches that retain Easter traditions he regards as false. He argues that people may prefer familiar customs to challenging biblical teaching. He interprets their unwillingness to change as evidence of spiritual blindness. He teaches that Yahweh may withhold further revelation from those who continually reject truth. 18. Revelation is more valuable than miracles — 22:26–23:30 Vaughn teaches that spiritual rain includes the unveiling of Yahweh's word through preaching. He argues that receiving truth should matter more than witnessing supernatural manifestations. He again refers to a famine of hearing. He then directs the congregation to 1 Samuel 8:6–7. 19. Israel's demand for a king — 23:30–24:31 Vaughn reads the account of Israel requesting a king. He emphasizes Yahweh's statement that the people had rejected him rather than merely rejecting Samuel. He applies the passage to religious communities that seek human government in place of Yahweh's leadership. 20. Yahweh's kingship versus human religious government — 24:31–25:26 Vaughn warns against replacing Yahweh's sovereignty with man-made religious authority. He compares the desire for a human king with the desire for a church hierarchy. He emphasizes that Samuel functioned as a prophetic messenger rather than a king. He presents this distinction as essential for understanding spiritual leadership. 21. A voice in the wilderness — 25:26–26:11 Vaughn says he does not want to function as a religious king. He also rejects the conventional pastoral role as he understands it. He describes his desired calling as a voice in the wilderness preparing the way of the Lord. He teaches that believers need revelation of the king rather than a human substitute for the king. 22. Building institutions around yesterday's revelation — 26:11–26:55 Vaughn argues that spiritual movements begin with a fresh word from Yahweh. He says that people later establish churches, bylaws, and statements of faith around that message. He warns that these structures can preserve past understanding while resisting further revelation. He distinguishes what believers have heard from what they are hearing now. 23. Continuing revelation and spiritual growth — 26:55–27:44 Vaughn strongly criticizes fixed statements of faith. He argues that spiritual understanding should continue developing. He describes the believer's vision of Yahweh becoming clearer over time. He teaches that Yahweh's kingship must remain central if believers are to continue receiving revelation. 24. The danger of replacing divine leadership — 27:44–28:33 Vaughn returns to the problem of religious movements becoming institutionalized. He says people can become more concerned with the mechanics of ministry than with the message. He warns that spiritual revelation may cease when believers decide they have learned everything necessary. He argues that people can lose the rain without realizing it. 25. Religious activity without spiritual hunger — 28:33–29:54 Vaughn describes congregations that remain satisfied with services despite not receiving new understanding. He attributes this condition to a lack of hunger for truth. He teaches that Yahweh may withdraw prophetic messengers from people who refuse to hear. He refers to the removal of a prophet from Israel as an illustration. 26. The final warning against denominationalism — 29:54–30:56 Vaughn returns to the Pentecostal revival of the early twentieth century. He argues that the movement became denominationalized. He teaches that Yahweh sends messengers to awaken people and may withdraw them when their message is rejected. He warns that a congregation may prefer being a comfortable church to receiving challenging revelation. 27. The danger of not recognizing spiritual famine — 30:56 to transcript end Vaughn concludes the available transcript by warning that people may become satisfied with the absence of revelation. He argues that they may not even recognize that they are no longer hearing Yahweh's word. Transcript limitation: The uploaded transcript ends mid-sentence shortly after 30:56. No further conclusion, prayer, or altar call can be verified.
