hello to the scattered Saints of Israel all around the world I want to deal with a topic that I don't think I've ever dealt with but I get questions about daily what are the restrictions for the Sabbath day for the weekly Sabbath the high sabbaths what are we allowed to do what are we forbidden to [Music] do to answer answer the question I must start with a few cautions extremism is a byproduct of religion anyone that ever finds faith will spend their life having to stay out of the ditches of extremism too liberal too conservative there's all always that desire or that Temptation in mankind to go to ditches rather than finding the balance the Bible says a false balance is an Abomination to The Lord At first Harvest Ministries we strive to find the balance between extremisms now to find that balance here's what it requires it requires a diligent study of the intent of the law of Yahweh for example in the Torah we are told that we should put a parit on the roof of our house well if I wanted to be extreme I would go right now get on my roof and build a fence around my roof after all it's commanded in Torah but the problem is this if I do that I've missed the point and so many messianics so many Sabbath Keepers so many miss the point of the Sabbath and the High Sabbath they miss it so much that they do what the children of Israel do they turned the Sabbath into a burden whereas Yahweh said the Sabbath is a delight so let us find out the extremes and see if we can find the balance to do that we have to go back to the very first mention of the word Sabbath Yahweh created he worked for Six Days on the seventh day he stopped his employment his occupation what is yahweh's occupation creation his job is to create You Were Made In His Image you are a Creator six days Yahweh had an occupation called Creation in that creation of seven days he l laid out for each one of us a prophecy contained within those seven days is the entire prophetic timeline of humanity one day is a thousand years so within that 6,000 6 days he already knew that those six days would be days of chaos slavery that man would turn those days into days of toil and labor and work so therefore he created the seventh day by just resting he created the day of rest from his toil all right therefore the seventh day is a prophecy of a time that is coming when the Bible said the wicked will cease from troubling and the Earth will be at rest he prophesied by creating Shabbat he gave you and I a weekly opportunity to look forward to a day when we were no longer slaves to sin to toil but here's the problem when Yahweh created Adam we seem to think that Adam had no work in his life because when we start talking about Shabbat the word work we tend to think that means any type of work but let's remember Adam worked in the Garden of Eden did he not was he not told to take the garden and dress it and keep it that requires work all work is not slavery all work is not toil some work is enjoyable like the Garden of Eden however Yahweh knew that that would not last he knew that man would have to work by the sweat of his brow just to provide food whereas in the garden food was provided readily so what does that already tell us about the six days of Labor that to provide food to provide income to provide a living we would become slaves to our masters or our employers this is the very reason when Moses came along and wrote the Torah he added a word that is so vital in understanding the intent of the Shabbat he said that you are to do no sural work if you look up the meaning of the word serve Isle you'll find out that it follows right along with the atmology of the word servant which is what every employee is in this world a servant that's correct your employer tells you when you can go to the bathroom they tell you when you can go home when you have to leave home they own you it is what it is it's slavery we could call it employment but it's slavery it's how we earn our living by the sweat of our brow Yahweh said here's what we're going to do yes you're going to be in slavery all week long six days you shall work by the sweat of your brow under the toil of a slave master on the seventh day day I want you to experience in a shadow what you're going to experience in the 7,000th year Freedom From Slavery freedom from the toil of work when you will reenter I mean do y'all really think we're not going to be working in the millennial Reign but it will be like the Garden of Eden it will be enjoyable work it will not be required work for our existence but rather to make our world more or even better every day just like the Garden of Eden the Bible says in the millennial Reign every man will have his own roof his own fig tree his own garden and he will work that Garden so when we get to the Sabbath if we're not careful we will do like the Jewish people did and add things to the word of God that are not in there so let's go back find out what was commanded for Shabbat number one no survial work freedom from your captivity of slavery no employer that day you're free spend your day have get up when you want to go to bed when you want to f Focus that day on creation past and creation future it is the day to honor the Creator what he did in the past and the new Earth that he's going to recreate in the future and how do we do that by the second requirement of Shabbat holy convocation you can go read all of this in your bible Torah commanded type in the word holy convocation on the weekly Sabbath and the annual high sabbaths of which there are seven there's that number so when you find the intent of Shabbat you will find out why yosua was so angry with the Jewish religion they had taken a day of Celebration the Bible said you are to celebrate your shabbats not dread them you're not to dread your Shabbat but you are to celebrate your Shabbat but the Jewish people turned this celebration into a list of Commandments what you can and cannot do how did that happen I'll tell you how it happened how most religious Traditions start with great intentions the Jewish people began to forget the Sabbath day that brought them great judgment they all went to Babylon in slavery for 70 years when they were released to come back home Nehemiah was determined they would never forget the Sabbath again so how what did he have to do because they didn't have the infilling of the Holy Spirit to write the Sabbath in their intent in their mind so what did Nehemiah have to do the very the only thing you can do if you have the Holy Spirit come up with a list of requirements so Nehemiah said hey we're no longer going to allow any vendors no buying no selling we're not going to lift a finger we're not going to flip a light switch no work sadly Nehemiah missed the intent of the Sabbath and to this very day his list of requirements find its way even into our movement of Sabbath Keepers all of the restrictions that the Jewish people have concerning the Sabbath are made up with good intentions now there is one scripture that a lot of people refer to in the Torah where Moses spoke about a man kindling a fire that if he was caught kindling a fire picking up sticks kindling a fire kill him or I'm sorry maybe he said put him outside the camp memory fails me but I believe it was a death sentence so there you go pastor we can't even Kindle a fire once again carnal Minds in those days you started every day like every other day by kindling of fire why Mama cannot wash clothes which is her slavery uh you can't make bricks you can't do anything without kindling a fire so if you're kindling that fire your intention is to work because the fire was the very thing that every work day required on that day Yahweh said I want you to treat it differently I want you to enjoy it I want you to celebrate it I want you to laugh I want you to recreate the millennial Reign on Shabbat I want you dancing I want you feasting I want you friendly I want you smiling I don't want you going around checking your list to make sure that you didn't do it that's religion and that's why if I had met Sabbath Keepers before I met the Sabbath I probably wouldn't be a Sabbath keeper today we work very hard to find that balance now concerning the high sabbaths the annual sabbaths the same thing applies now we have several people I want to say this and I want to make this very clear if you you personally have convictions that are truly in your spirit about what not to do on Shabbat then abide by those convictions they will be honored here at first Harvest Ministries you don't have to say one word just live your conviction but we make a great mistake when we expect that conviction to be kept by the whole church body so with that said learn to celebrate the Shabbat we don't have a list here of what you can or cannot do except for two things and what are those two things exactly what's in the Torah no survi work you know what that means Here Comes Sabbath morning I've already read the word I've already been to Bible study I've already gathered into a holy cont vacation I get home on a Sabbath a Shabbat and all week I've been so busy making money earning a living that I go outside to walk among my rose bushes and I notice that they need to be deadheaded oh my Lord and I begin to clip those Roses to make them more beautiful I would be put inheld by many messianics for working on Shabbat no I'm celebrating creation I'm celebrating the beauty of the world I'm celebrating that's not surval work that is enjoyable that is something that glorifies Yahweh and his creation so find the intent if you meet other people in this ministry that have stricter convictions don't ever mock that respect it and if you other people in this ministry that have lesser convictions leave them alone now if you and I lived in the land of Israel the land of Judea then we could keep Sabbath in a much more disciplined way because the whole nation keeps Sabbath all the restaurants shut down everything shuts down over there now if I wanted to go out and eat on the Sabbath in Jerusalem that would be a problem because my dis my dis desire to eat would require someone to break Sabbath in the land of Israel someone would have to open up their shop and I would be causing them to work in employment on Shabbat but alas you and I don't live in the land of Israel guess where we live in Babylon in a world just like the children of Israel lived in in ancient Babylon I live in a world where everyone works on the Sabbath so the question comes up many times can we go out and eat on Sabbath this is my as the leader of the church observation of that requirement if you feel differently it will be honored here if if food is already cooked somewhere if a restaurant is already open here in Babylon and I happen to go there because the Bible said you're allowed to eat on Sabbath you're allowed to prepare food on Shabbat you you've got to eat Yu was in the field shuck and corn on Shabbat because life comes before tradition and and and requirements so if I'm hungry traveling in town and I want to stop and eat I have not made anyone work they were already working I said something to a sister yesterday that uh was asking me this question we were going to have lunch at the church now when we it was on Shabbat when we have lunch at the church it requires our sisters to serve they have to put the food on the table they have to serve it to us so I asked the sister I said now you tell me the difference in my sister serving us or a waitress she couldn't answer the question and the reason is very simple we do not live in a land where all businesses are shut down therefore we are not requiring them to work that is how we understand it if we are wrong we pray that the father reveals it to us but we do believe that that is the spirit of the Sabbath we require as a Ministry two things no surval work and a holy convocation we will not add nor take away from the requirements in the word of Yahweh I hope that helps you a little bit Yahweh bless you have a great day

Summary

This teaching explains Sabbath observance through the intent of Yahweh’s Torah. The Sabbath was created as freedom from servile labor and as a prophetic picture of the coming millennial rest, not as a burdensome list prohibiting every form of activity. The two congregational requirements are cessation from servile employment and attendance at a holy convocation. Enjoyable activity, necessary food preparation, celebration, fellowship, and appreciation of creation are not automatically violations of the Sabbath. Personal convictions may be stricter, but they should not become commandments for the whole congregation. Proper Sabbath observance maintains the balance between obedience and liberty by following Yahweh’s written requirements without adding religious traditions
