Summary
This teaching explains Sabbath observance through the intent of Yahweh’s Torah. The Sabbath was created as freedom from servile labor and as a prophetic picture of the coming millennial rest, not as a burdensome list prohibiting every form of activity. The two congregational requirements are cessation from servile employment and attendance at a holy convocation. Enjoyable activity, necessary food preparation, celebration, fellowship, and appreciation of creation are not automatically violations of the Sabbath. Personal convictions may be stricter, but they should not become commandments for the whole congregation. Proper Sabbath observance maintains the balance between obedience and liberty by following Yahweh’s written requirements without adding religious traditions
