Summary

Jacob’s blessings divided Israel’s inheritance between Judah and Joseph. Judah received the scepter and royal lineage, while Joseph received the birthright through Ephraim and Manasseh. These birthright promises included national greatness, prosperity, and a company of nations. The northern tribes were carried into Assyrian captivity and lost their identity. The teaching traces their later development through northwestern Europe, identifying Ephraim with Great Britain and the Commonwealth and Manasseh with the United States. Recovering the distinction between Judah and Israel is presented as essential to understanding end-time prophecy, David’s continuing throne, America and Britain’s national blessings, and the unfinished mission to proclaim the hope of Israel.
